Cee vs Zee vs Channel Purlins – What’s the Difference?

Cee Purlins: Cee purlins are one of the most commonly used purlin styles in metal building construction. Their “C” shape provides excellent strength and stability, making them ideal for roof and wall framing. Cee purlins are easy to install, simple to lap, and work well in a wide range of agricultural and commercial applications.

Zee Purlins: Zee purlins feature a “Z” shaped profile that allows them to overlap at the joints. This overlapping design increases structural continuity and strength, especially for longer spans. Zee purlins are often used in larger metal buildings where added load capacity and rigidity are required.

Channel Purlins: Channel purlins have a traditional U-shaped profile and are commonly used where straight, non-lapped framing is preferred. They provide strong, clean lines and are often selected for wall framing, end walls, and applications where a flat mounting surface is needed.
